What is Whole Body DEXA?

If you’ve heard of a DEXA scan, you may be thinking of a test for osteoporosis. While that’s true, today’s technology allows us to go far beyond bone health alone. At The Laurel Highlands Center, we use Whole Body DEXA to provide a more complete picture of your health—combining bone, muscle, and fat analysis in one scan.
What does a whole body DEXA measure?

Visceral Fat: Discover the concealed, harmful fat surrounding your organs - a major contributor to the risk of disease.
Muscle Health (ALMI): Assess how much stronger you've become, keep track of your muscle growth, and understand your risk of muscle loss.
Body Composition: Discover the exact layout of fat, muscle, and bone in your body.
Bone Density: Understand the health of your bones to prevent injuries and osteoporosis in the long run.
Longevity & Lifespan: Assess health dangers and strategize for a longer life.

What to expect:
The test takes approximately 5 minutes
You should wear loose shorts and a t-shirt
You lay on the table and the scanner does its job!
Your report is available immediately
Your appointment will be 15 minutes long in total to allow time to register, change and complete the test
